Description

Utilities Supervisor

Organization Town of Banff
City Banff
Start Date Monday, July 26, 2010
End Date Monday, August 09, 2010
Type (Full time / Part time) Full time, permanent

Description

If you can’t turn on a tap without thinking about water quality, turbidity and disinfection, while the rest of us are just anticipating a refreshing drink, you could be the perfect person to lead our utilities team.

Our utilities section, one of five within our Operations department, has an opportunity for a leader with expertise in water supply and distribution, waste water collection and storm drainage systems. Our Supervisor role is a critical position, responsible for many of the technical activities that keep the water flowing from our taps and draining from the sewers.

Requirements

Our preference is for previous municipal experience, with Alberta Environment Level IV certifications and waste water treatment and water treatment level II. Our approval requirements are for minimum certifications of Level III wastewater collection and Level II water distribution.

Beyond the technical work, we also need someone who knows SCADA and can make informed spending decisions, as you’re responsible for everything related to creating and managing the utilities capital and operating budget. You are able to research, write and present reports and plans giving Council the necessary technical details for them to make informed decisions, often addressing long-term capital spending. Familiarity with the operations of a wastewater treatment plant is also necessary, as you are the primary person responsible for negotiating and managing that contract.

Although you’ll spend most of your time in an office environment, you’ll also need to be equally comfortable out on the streets performing site inspections or any main repairs. This position has staff supervisory duties.
