Description

Reporting to the Utilities and Special Projects Engineer, this position provides support in the coordination of planning of water, storm and sanitary utility systems as well as managing the growth and effectiveness of the systems. Responsibilities include: developing and implementing short and long range capital replacement and master plans, models and utility requirements, land use development reviews and approvals, as well as flood protection and management plans; developing short term temporary and long term permanent dyking measures plans; responding to public issues and complaints relating to water, storm and sanitary utility systems; assisting with the maintenance of the asset management system including analyzing data, report submissions, conducting comparisons between actual field and assumed conditions, tracking progress and updating programs, reviewing erosion and sediment control plans submitted by developers; researching and developing engineering policies; providing reports or presentations to various internal and external committees or community groups and liaising with external bodies such as government agencies, consultants and contractors; and participating on various city committees as required.


 

Requirements

Requirements include:

• Completion of a university degree in civil engineering and some related professional experience, preferably in a municipal or construction field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer or EIT with APEGBC is required.
• Knowledge of the concepts, practices and techniques of civil engineering, with a focus on utility systems and data management.
• Knowledge of relevant policies, by-laws, procedures and legislation.
• Knowledge of project management principles and techniques.
• Planning and coordination skills to balance workload between multiple projects.
• Communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
• Problem solving and decision making skills to determine possible effects of new developments and flag discrepancies in land use and development.
• Research and analytical skills to interpret and prepare engineering plans and specifications.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and GIS tools is an asset.
• Valid BC driver’s license.
