SENIOR PLANNER - Zoning & Special Projects

Description

This is a senior position responsible for professional planning activities and advice along with project management. There is latitude for independent action and exercise of judgment with minimum supervision.

Reporting to the Senior Project Coordinator, the successful candidate will be required to coordinate and manage town-wide special projects and zoning programs, including studies, policies, and regulations; provide expert advice and recommendations on planning and development issues related to Committee of Adjustment, special projects and zoning matters to internal and external customers; conduct site/area inspections; act as expert planning witness at OMB hearings; prepare and present formal reports and recommendations to Committees and Council, prepare complex Official Plan/Zoning by-law amendments; facilitate public consultation, liaison and community outreach; guide and coordinate the activities of all staff involved in a particular application/project, including those of other departments; coordinate the work of consultants.

 

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a Degree in Urban Planning or a related discipline combined with 7 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience in the field of urban planning; membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners preferred. Thorough knowledge of the Ontario Planning Act, regulations, and procedures, and urban and regional planning principles; supervisor report writing and communication skills; superior presentation and public speaking skills; well-developed team leadership and negotiation skills; superior analytical and organizational skills; ability to set priorities solve problems, and meet deadlines under pressure; well developed computer skills; valid Ontario diver's licence.
 

Salary & Benefits

Salary: $67,656 – 79,601 (2009 rate)
